Tom passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on February 5, 1940, and raised in Petrolia and Sarnia, Ontario.
He was predeceased by his parents Harold Dow and Mae (nee Buckner), his first wife Carolyn (nee Spice), step-father Lloyd LeNeve, and brothers Ken and Larry Dow.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lois (nee Fuller), children Stephen (Kelly) of Cuenca, Ecuador, Sue Kelly (Paul) of Elora, and Marianne Anello (Francesco) of Cambridge, brother Richard LeNeve (Sheila) of Sarnia, Uncle Bob Buckner and cousin Cheryl Wischmeyer (Greg) of Michigan, brother-in-law Jim Coghill, and sister-in-law Betty Dow of Texas.
He will also be missed by grandchildren Brittany Noble (Greg), Wes Grove (Alicia), Zach Grove (Erin), Allegra Rattee (Jordan), Michael Rattee, and Hilary Dow (Alex); as well as great-grandchildren Harlee and Kinslee Mulligan and Alice and Max Noble, numerous nieces and nephews; and the Fuller family: brothers-in-law Clare (Halima), Mark (Sandy), Peter, and sister-in-law Ellie McFaul (Warren) and their families.
Tom was educated at Emmanuel Bible College, WLU, WL Seminary, and U of Waterloo (PhD History 1981). In 2018 he was awarded the Doctor of Divinity by McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton. He pastored Evangelical Missionary churches in Stratford and Waterloo. In 1965, Tom joined the faculty of Emmanuel Bible College, where he served as professor, Academic Dean, Vice President, and President until 2001, returning as Interim President for 2009–2013. He also served on the executive of the Canadian Association of Bible Colleges.
From 1972 to 1974, Tom and Carolyn were teachers at the United Missionary Theological College in Ilorin, Nigeria. He also served shorter teaching assignments in St. Paul Seminary, Novosibirsk, Siberia (1994), Canadian Theological Seminary, Regina (1995, 1996), and McMaster Divinity College (2007). He was volunteer chaplain at Emmanuel Village/Brairfield Gardens retirement home in Kitchener 2003-2018.
Tom was always grateful for the love and encouragement he received from past students and parishioners. He dearly loved his family and his many friends. He also loved learning, preaching, and teaching. Above all, he loved his Saviour, Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
The family of Tom Dow will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467.
The memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church, 160 Lancaster St. E., Kitchener.
Masks are mandatory to attend both the visitation and memorial service.
