What happens when a youth group takes the Bible seriously and attempts to apply it to their everyday lives? That has been the passion of Lakeshore EMC Youth in North Bay, ON as they work through the book of James.
Each week Lakeshore EMC Youth have been diving into usual topics such as the power of prayer, faith at work in day-to-day living and what would Jesus do; but this group of 30 kids move passed simply studying the Bible to live true to the heart of James as they encounter their community each month.
On their most recent outing, the students served hot chocolate at the bus terminal and offered to pray for people. Kaylan, one of the group members, had her faith blown away after praying for a woman who was suffering with chronic headaches. God Answered! The woman told Kaylan that her pain was gone and Kaylan assured her that God answered because “Jesus loves you so much.”
The youth group, with guidance from their youth leader, Justin Fotheringham, are making every effort to listen to, and live out the message of James wholeheartedly. Stepping out to heal the sick and pray for those who don’t know Jesus has also transformed their own worship times on Friday nights where they are strongly sensing the presence of God. Parents and other church members are getting excited as they see what God is doing through their young people. The students know that God is on the move within their church and can’t wait to see who will join them as they serve on the front lines for Him.
“As a body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” (James 2:26)
