24/7 Prayer Week (12/17/2008)

“There is no telling when someone may be burdened to come to God’s house to pray. I have arrived at 3:30 a.m., and found 7 or 8 people absorbed in earnest prayer” says Youth Pastor Andrew Mills.

Wilmot Centre Missionary Church has opened their doors to an annual 24/7 week of prayer. Offered to both congregation and community alike, its purpose is to help people recognize Jesus as the one to turn to with the affairs of life and to do so at any time of the day or night, whenever the need is realized.

Mention of 24/7 Prayer by Wilmot Centre people has resulted in neighbors and friends (spurred on by personal or family needs), coming in and spending time in prayer. Who but the Lord knows the eventual outcome of these encounters with God through prayer? Andrew has been developing and organizing this ministry for three years. The Senior Teens have been instrumental in helping to set it up and in offering their time to be at church whenever people arrive to pray.

Up to 50 prayer stations are set up throughout the auditorium. A map of the world is positioned in one and those who pray there choose a country to pray for and use a push pin to indicate its name. Another station features rocks which represent burdens or sins to be prayed about and then dropped at the foot of the Cross. There is a ‘river’ in another area and a person can stand in it to pray and symbolize being washed clean by the forgiveness of the Lord. A prayer wall holds pinned requests, prayed over by the one who left it and by others who see it and also lift it to God on behalf of another.
