Thieves Break in and Threaten Missionary Family (8/12/2008)

During the early morning hours of July 22 armed robbers entered the Miango Rest Home in Nigeria where Clare and Halima Fuller and children were staying temporarily. They had tied up and threatened the gate guards and smashed the windows of Fullers’ cottage to gain entrance. They demanded money and gold. As a few of them made off with money and household electronics they forced Halima (who Fullershad young daughter Suzanna with her) to go with them to show them other houses within the grounds. While praying inwardly, Clare and the boys were intermittently held at gunpoint to make sure there was no resistance or sounding of alarm. As they lay on the floor they could hear the sounds of another house being attacked. As the gang continued their rampage throughout the nearby area, someone was finally able to sound the alarm. Openly divided amongst themselves as to what to do, they finally decided to take what they had seized and run. Halima and Suzanna returned to the house and the family was reunited, thankfully unharmed. Many of the robbers were caught by a local vigilante group and did not survive the experience. A couple escaped capture.

The Fullers and the EMCC are extremely grateful to the Lord for bringing them safely through this harrowing experience. It goes without saying that this was a volatile situation with unpredictable results. Please pray for Clare and Halima as they process this, and as they seek to provide comfort and assurance for their children.

We urge you to remember to pray for the ministry and safety of our missionary families, many of whom serve in difficult and dangerous places.
