Intertwining Stories (4/22/2008)
The modified ‘inner sanctum’ was standing room only, 400+. On the platform Carol was leading a chorale 60 strong in a rocking, swinging time of praise music. I was introduced and told the crowd of that day five years prior when I stood there under the gilded dove (the relief centre piece in the dome sixty feet above my head), praying that this place would resound to the praises of God. God has been at work. I had traveled to Montreal this time to speak at the second gathering of RECC’s new church plant in Dorval, called West Edge. The West Edge meeting began at 5:05 p.m. The venue is Bellissimo, an Italian restaurant, run by an Iranian, who loves Jesus. A friend of Lorenzo’s, he encouraged Lorenzo to start meetings in his building. This man’s conversion story is amazing. In a dream an unknown man speaks to him and says, “Come unto to me and I will give you rest.” After a month’s long search he is given a NT and in it he discovers the words that he heard and the identity of the man in the dream – Jesus. Hamid has made a fresh step in following Jesus by making his place of business available in the service of the King. Like RECC, the gathering called West Edge is also a phenomenon of God at work. People are sitting at the tables, singing songs on screen, listening to the message. There are between 60 and 70 present. Besides the ‘core supporters’ of the new launch the others have come because of word of mouth. It’s my turn to speak about the journey of life. Some of us have already discovered it really is a journey with Jesus. Some of us are a little further along than others – and it is our privilege to invite and help others in this journey. After speaking I have opportunity to talk with a young man who has just decided to become a follower of Jesus. This was his first day! He tells me his story. I do some teaching and encouraging. Do we recognize Jesus at work? Let’s pay close attention and recognize that our story is part of His story. Phil Delsaut

I was a few minutes late as I hurriedly entered the premises of River’s Edge Community Church in Montreal (RECC). The ‘buzz’ hit me first. And then the greeter said, “Welcome. The party begins here!” And it was a celebration….
