The angels rejoice and so do we (4/15/2008)

Ken and Sharon Misener continue their ministry to First Nations people on Seabird Island near Agassiz, BC. Recently we heard the good news that several people have committed their lives to Jesus in the past few months at Seabird and so called to ask what’s happening. When I spoke with Ken he was puzzled as this is, after all, what we’re about so why would we call? True enough, but as even the angels in heaven rejoice when one sinner repents, we too feel joy well up within when we hear stories of new birth. And we want to share the stories with you! Back to Seabird Island. God is doing a work in this particular area of His vineyard at this time and Ken is glad to be there to help bring in the harvest.

Here are some of the stories:

Last year a sister of one of the First Nations believers came to visit her sister and attended the baby dedication of her niece at a Seabird service. She heard the Gospel but did not accept. On her return trip in January was just to visit her sister. She heard the gospel again and this time trusted Christ as her Saviour.

Two children aged 9 and 11 have been praying for their unbelieving mother for about four years. Their mother followed the traditional native religion and has a number of personal problems and issues. She noticed the change in her children and in February decided to get things right with God and made a commitment.

Another woman and a man, both unbelievers, have been coming to the church for over a year, on and off. Following one particular message on a Sunday in February Ken gave an altar call. The sermon wasn’t a basic salvation message, but Ken felt constrained to issue the call. Both rose from their seats and became believers that day.

During a March service a husband and wife also made the life altering decision to follow the Lord. On several occasions the mother of the husband asked Ken to pray for them, that they would come to the Lord, and now the mother is rejoicing with all of us.

Along with his many ministry responsibilities, Ken, along with a lay person in the congregation, is busy following up the new believers. Life on Reserves tends to be transient making discipleship difficult. Often folks are not far away, perhaps on another nearby Reserve that Ken also visits and he’ll find them again. Kids’ crusades are effective at Seabird and as children make decisions for Christ, Ken looks for opportunities to reach their families.
